Durham Herb Fair, Ontario: Dedicated to Herbs, Flowers, and Vegetables

Folks in Durham, Ontario are so eager to get going in spring that they host an annual Herb Fair dedicated to herbs, flowers, vegetables and garden-related crafts.

Browsing the booths in Town Hall Park, along the sparkling Saugeen River. means lots of sniffing, touching, tasting and questioning. I was glad I'd brought baskets to haul my purchases back to the car.

Even those without a green thumb will enjoy the fair. You can buy baskets, hand-decorated pots and other crafts, or tour private gardens open for the day. Folk singers provide great background music–and when they sang Scarborough Fair, we all chimed in on the line, “parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme”!

Durham is in southwestern Ontario, where Highways 6 and 4 meet, about 110 miles northwest of Toronto. The Herb Fair runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. the second Saturday in June.
