The Delta Blues Museum in Clarksdale, Mississippi
In the Mississippi Delta region, my husband and I discovered the Delta Blues Museum in Clarksdale.
Housed in a renovated 1918 railroad depot, the museum showcases the culture and people that shaped this original American music.
As we studied photos, instruments and other artifacts, we heard recordings by blues greats like Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker and Robert Johnson, who all called Clarksdale home. You can even see the actual cabin where Muddy Waters lived when he was a child.
Clarksdale is located where U.S. Highways 49, 61 and 278 meet in northwestern Mississippi. The Delta Blues Museum (1 Blues Alley) is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday; open an hour earlier from March through mid-October.
Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for children ages 6-12.
