Azalea Garden Inn in Blowing Rock, North Carolina

I found this charming log cabin on the lushly landscaped grounds of the Azalea Garden Inn in Blowing Rock, North Carolina.

Among the state's oldest resorts, the town dates back to the 1800s and is full of small galleries, specialty shops and quaint restaurants. Most are within easy walking distance of the inn, which includes spectacular gardens, with streams and a waterwheel, on 1-1/2 acres.

Blowing Rock is where the Blue Ridge Parkway meets U.S. Highway 321 in western North Carolina, about 6 miles south of Boone.

The inn (793 Main St.) accepts guests from May through October. Rates for double occupancy vary by season, but range from $64 to $104 a night. No children under age 16 allowed.
