Canadian Fire Fighters Museum in Port Hope, Ontario
If you ever imagined yourself speeding through town on a shiny red fire engine, you'll enjoy the Canadian Fire Fighters Museum in Port Hope, Ontario.
We found an astonishing variety of fire-related items, including helmets, hoses and Canada's largest collection of hydrants, as well as fire trucks (above) ranging from hand- and horse-drawn pumpers to modern vehicles. One museum volunteer, who is a retired firefighter, told us that memorabilia collectors sparked the idea for the museum when they got together to display their artifacts.
Port Hope is on Highway 2, about 65 miles east of Toronto and along Lake Ontario. The museum (95 Mill St. S.; 1-905-885-8985) is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily from June through mid-October.
