Parker Homestead State Park: Montana's Smallest
While traveling through beautiful southwest Montana, my husband and I came across little-known Parker Homestead State Park, located outside Three Forks in the scenic Jefferson River Valley.
At a little more than 1 acre in size, this is Montana's smallest state park. It features just a sod-roof cabin tucked under a stand of cottonwood trees (above).
We learned that rugged frontiersmen built thousands of similar abodes statewide. Built in the early 1900s, the Parker Homestead was used through at least the 1940s.
Three Forks is just south of I-90 on State Highway 2, about 33 miles northwest of Bozeman. The park is 8 miles southwest of Three Forks on the east side of Highway 2.
