Tour the 150+ Year Old Cottonwood Mansion Near Selkirk in Ontario
While driving through scenic southwestern Ontario, we ran across the majestic Italianate-style Cottonwood Mansion near Selkirk.
We stopped and enjoyed touring the 15-room mansion, built in 1870. The tour is great because visitors can walk around in all of the rooms.
We felt the fabric on the bedspreads, pushed aside lace curtains, and admired some original furnishings in the parlor. I even saw a vintage sewing machine like the one my grandmother used!
We also enjoyed a nice cup of tea — I don't ever recall enjoying such hospitality on a historic home tour.
The mansion is on Regional Road 53, roughly 2-1/2 miles north of Selkirk, which is about 60 miles west of Buffalo, New York. From late May through August, it's open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday; open 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday the rest of the year.
