Become a Master Traveller with this Ultimate Guide

If you want to become a master traveller then you should know that this is easier said than done. There are some things that you may only learn while you are out there seeing the world, but that being said, there are things that you can do to try and prepare yourself so you can have the best experience possible. Want to find out more? Simply look below.

Patience is Imperative
The best thing that you can do is be patient. Do not worry about the stuff that you are unable to control, because life is far too short for you to spend most of your time being angry or annoyed. If you missed your bus, don’t worry about it, there will be another. Sit down and enjoy the world around you while you wait. If the bank machine is out of money, then take a trip to the next town and do a bit of exploring. Sure, it can be hard to do this when you are stressed and you have a plan, but if you can let all of this go, you’ll have a better travel experience, and you’ll be a better traveller as a result.

Wake up Early
If you want to see all of the best attractions and if you want to avoid some of the bigger tourist crowds then you need to try and wake up early. This is the best time for you to take in the soft and diffused light, not to mention that it is easier for you to get ready for the day ahead because there’s less traffic on the streets. If you want to get some good Instagram shots, then you need to be there before all of the other tourists, so make sure that you set your alarm a little earlier if you can.

Observe Daily Life
If you want to get a good feel for a place, then one thing that you can do is sit in one of the busy streets by yourself. Watch everything go by and see life happening right in front of you. This is the best way for you to take everything in, and you may even find that you end up talking to some of the locals. Slow down the thoughts that you are having, take in the smells, the sounds and the human interactions. This is the best way for you to absorb all of the interactions around you and you will soon find that you are able to unwind.

Slow Down
Do not try and visit 8 countries in 8 weeks. You may find that the best experiences happen when you take the time to see the country and explore. If you can do this, then you will soon find that you can learn about any activities that may not be in your guidebook and you can even meet people who actually want to show you around. If you can, you need to rent a car when you go to a foreign country. If you can do this, then you will soon find that you can open up the amount of opportunities you expose yourself to when you go on an adventure.

Give up your Time
If possible you need to make a strong point of giving up your time when you are travelling. Volunteering is the best thing that you can do, and you may even find that it is one of the best and most rewarding experiences you could hope to be part of. Just be careful when you do volunteer because there are some very good scams out there and you do not want to be partaking in things like this.

Take Great Photos
Sure, you don’t want to be spending all of your time behind a camera lens, but at the same time, getting great photos is one of the best ways for you to make sure that you document every experience possible. You need to try and do what you can to get out there and you also need to make sure that you are not missing out on those fantastic opportunities. You have to remember that when you get home, those photos can help you to reinforce the memories you have made, and this can go a long way if you want to try and treasure your memories for years to come.

Ditch your Comfort Zone
You have to try and challenge yourself to do things that would normally give you anxiety. You have to remember that the more you do this, the less anxiety you will have. If you are not a natural hiker then you need to push yourself to go out on more hikes. If you have a hard time talking to strangers then you have to remember that everyone has this issue.  The more you do this the sooner you’ll find that things become much easier. The reason why this works out so well when you are out travelling is because you are already out of your comfort zone. Everything is completely different, so what’s one more experience to add to the list?

Be Open
If you happen to dislike the customs of others because they do not reflect that of your own, then you need to avoid showing it. Try and listen to the opinions of others even if you do not agree with them. It is arrogant if you believe that you are right and other people are wrong, just because you do not agree with them. If you can practice empathy and if you can put yourself in the shoes of someone else, then this will help you overall. If you can, you need to try and embrace the many possibilities, customs, interests and religions. You also need to try and ask questions so that you can expand your beliefs. If you can do this, then you will soon find that things become easier for you overall. You also need to take the time to visit various trinket stores or markets. You might feel a little out of place but at the same time, it helps you to understand the culture on a way deeper level. You might even be able to pick up some aboriginal merchandise online.

Be Flexible
You should never try and spend a certain amount of time in a country because someone has told you to. The truth is that you may have no idea who you are going to meet or what you are going to enjoy. Sometimes you may feel as though you can blast through a country in a week or two, but if you end up loving it, you may end up living there for longer. Ideally, you should try and pick one point to start from. When you have done this, pick a few activities that you love. When you have done this, leave your trip in the hands of the universe. Go with the flow and be as flexible as you can with the dates. Don’t book a return flight, or your next flight in the first few days. If you can do this, then you will soon find that things end up working in your favour.

Learn the Language
There is absolutely no need for you to be fluent in a given language when you visit a country. One thing that you can do is try and master a couple of phrases in the country that you are visiting. Not being able to talk when you are travelling can be super frustrating, but this is your issue and not theirs. If you talk louder, then this will not help you to understand them, and it will not help them to understand you. When you are relaxing in your hotel after a long day, or when you are on a long flight, you should take this chance to learn a few phrases.

Take an Extra Bank Card
If you can, you need to take an extra bank card with you. Having your details stolen can be tough but if it happens when you are in another country you may find that this works against you. If you happen to have your card frozen or if it gets stuck in the ATM, then you have to try and find a way to get money. Having another bank card with you can help you immensely here, so if you have to take a credit card with you or if you have to open a second account to make this happen then don’t discount it. It will help you to stay safe and you may even find that you have access to the money you need when you need it.

Write down the Hotel Name
Sometimes if you have had a long day, you may find that your phone ends up dying. If you do not write down the address of your hotel, then you may not be able to show the taxi driver. This sounds ridiculous but you may want to write down your hotel location or name so that you can remember it. Keep it on a paper slip in your pocket or even write it on the back of your hand.
