How to Turn Your Hobby into a Job

If there is one thing that you should be looking for in life it's true accomplishment. Accomplishments look different from person to person, but if you have a hobby that you absolutely love, shouldn't it be considered an accomplishment if you can turn that into a job that pays you? It's important that you know that your hobby should be something that you are happy to do day to day and that you never get bored of it. While some hobbies become boring over time, if you're planning to monetise it, then you should make sure that you are enjoying what you're doing.

Some people are able to turn their hobbies like yoga into a full-time position by completing a 200 hour RYT online and when they do, they end up feeling more fulfilled and have perfect job satisfaction as a result. No matter what it is that you love to do for a hobby, you should be able to choose something that makes you feel good on the inside and allows you to see that you are progressing on the outside. Below, we have some tips for how to turn your hobby into a job.

  • Keep innovating. If your hobby is baking and you start to monetise your baking abilities, start with cakes and branch out into biscuits. There are so many ways that you can innovate a hobby and keep your hobby and your new creative, relevant. Brainstorm and get to know your strengths so that you are able to do more with your time.
  • Be persistent with it. You're not going to win every single day. When you are getting started in your hobby and making it into a job, you need to learn to network and you need to connect with the right people in the right places to make sure that everybody knows what you're doing. You also need to ensure that you are able to turn your hobby into a career by ramping up the time that you spend on it. You just need 15 minutes per day to start off with and that could just be posting on social media to be noticed.
  • Pay attention to feedback. If you're starting out as a yoga teacher, your students are going to be your biggest marketing tool. If you are good at what you're doing they are going to tell their friends and their family about what you can do so the other people will join your other classes. The more interest you get the more classes you can put on and then you can generate more income. Ask for feedback – even the bad feedback is going to be helpful.
  • Keep it very simple. You don't have to go big or go home, you can start a blog and start talking about what you can do, you can post on social media and talk about your hobby. Just have fun with it and make it work for you that way and that way you'll be able to see the income coming in based on how much fun you are having.
