6 Different Ways to Spend Your Time During Quarantine

The Coronavirus pandemic has hit the world hard and has turned our lives upside down in a matter of months, and yet no one knows if the world will ever be the same again. One day we were working as normal and the next we were faced with losing our jobs and being placed in quarantine in our own homes. Many of us were furloughed by our employers but the worst hit were those that lost their jobs at a moment's notice. The upshot of this is that the majority of us have plenty of time on our hands to seek online work or to take up a new skill or hobby, so here we are going to look at 6 different ways to spend your time during quarantine.

1. Practicing yoga

With all this time on your hands why not use the opportunity to get fit so that when you finally come out of quarantine you are in the perfect zen state of mind and with a beach body to die for? Just because you are at home under lockdown doesn't mean to say you can't exercise. Yoga can be practiced with as little as an internet connection and some loose-fitting clothing, so give it a go, there are hundreds of online classes to choose from that will give you the skills and motivation to succeed at your new hobby.

2. Freelance writing

Although many of us have been furloughed this doesn't stop us seeking employment in another field, and what better way to pass your time than to earn a few extra pennies. If you have good English skills and enjoy creative writing, then maybe becoming a freelance writer is the answer for you. You can work from the comfort of your own home, so no chance of catching the virus, and you never know you might broaden your knowledge and learn about new subjects.

3. Learning a new language

Learning a new language is something that many of us have dreamed of doing, but in reality, we have never had the time. Well, why not strike while the iron is hot and start right now?! There are plenty of apps that you can use or you can download YT vids that allow you to practice your listening skills and learn new vocabulary. Imagine when the lockdown is over that you go on holiday to Spain and can successfully order dinner at a restaurant. You will be the envy of all your friends!

4. Gardening

Some of us already have green fingers, but for the rest of us, lockdown could be the perfect opportunity to grow your own fruit and vegetables. For starters, the quarantine period has arrived in spring which is the perfect time to start planting outdoors, and given that we are likely to be leading a more sedentary lifestyle, eating healthily will help us combat those pounds that we've piled on. Furthermore, it is a great activity for your mental health, and to pass the hours of the day, so order some seeds and get planting today!

5. Reading

Reading is a fantastic way to not only relax, but also to learn, and to broaden one's horizons. In the ‘normal world,' we lead such busy lives that it is often impossible to snuggle down on the sofa with a good read, but now that we have all the time in the world on our hands it is a great opportunity to start reading again. There are so many ebooks available these days you don't even have to leave your home, so give it a go, you might learn something new!

6. Running

As we touched upon earlier due to the sedentary lifestyle that quarantine is imposing upon us it is good to do as much exercise as possible to not only keep us fit, but also to keep our mental health in check. Running is virtually cost-free, as all you need is a pair of trainers and some shorts, and there are plenty of apps to give you added motivation and to compete against your friends. It can be difficult to get off the sofa, but once you do you will be highly rewarded!

As we have discovered there are many different things that we can be doing during the quarantine period to pass the time from yoga and running if you want to get fit, to learning a new language, or reading more if you want to broaden your knowledge. If you need to earn some extra cash then try freelance writing and for the ultimate effort versus reward activity turn your hand to gardening where you can enjoy the fruits of your labor over summer.
