Tips On How to Treat Problem Skin Correctly

Problem skin does not tolerate creams with a dense texture because they clog the skin. At the same time, alcohol and other drying means for greatly dehydrate the skin. Learn how to treat problem skin.

Three steps to a healthy skin
Three steps to a healthy skin include:

  • Suppress the activity of bacteria that cause inflammation
  • Normalize the activity of the sebaceous glands
  • Remove the scars and stagnant spots

Why does the skin become problematic? The reason is in the activity of the sebaceous glands of the skin, lying in its deep layers. By the amount of sebum secretion, the skin is divided into three types – dry, oily, and normal or combined.

Oily and the combined skin type are characterized by large sebaceous glands with the abundant secretion of sebum and wide pores. Most people believe that these pores or black dots are the glands of the skin, which should be treated with the application of creams and ointments. However, the sebaceous glands themselves are located deep, in the lower parts of the skin. Therefore, often the use of only creams and lotions for the treatment of deep acne is ineffective.

Normally, the sebaceous glands are designed to produce sebum for the purpose of protecting and strengthening the skin, but under the influence of improper care, poor ecology, nutrition, and hormonal background, a malfunction occurs in their work.

In addition to the volume of secreted sebum, its density also matters. The thicker the sebum, the harder it is for it to come out. Abundant thick sebum literally bursts the walls of the gland and this is why the skin shows seals of different diameter – from tiny balls to fairly large knots, over which even the skin color can change, acquiring a slightly bluish tinge.

The accumulation of the sebaceous secret attracts bacteria that live on the skin since the secret of sebaceous glands is an excellent nutrient medium for them. Breeding, they cause inflammation, soreness, and redness of the skin. If you don’t treat it, a stagnant accumulation of fat causes acne or pimples.

Pimples
When you have pimples, you want to get rid of it as soon as possible, by trying to squeeze it out. But this doesn’t work because the stagnant secret simply cannot pass through the narrow duct of the sebaceous gland. Some people try to remove pimples by using various solutions, ointments, and creams that dry the skin. But they are not able to penetrate deep layers of the skin and open the stagnant secret. Gradually, the chronic pimple disappears by itself but a bluish or brownish pigmentation remains in its place for a long time.

What to do? In order for a stagnant pimple to disappear quickly, it is advisable to help the skin get rid of it. You need to use a method called electrocoagulation with the opening of the channel to remove the contents of a pimple, and then inject an antibiotic or oxygen-ozone mixture under it to quickly suppress bacterial inflammation. After such manipulation, the healing takes place very quickly, however, the pigmentation and the hem can still form. Therefore, once a pimple has formed, it is advisable to contact the dermatologist.

Atrophic scars after acne can be eliminated by injecting high molecular weight hyaluronic acid and regular application of a cream with retinol. The younger the scars, the better they respond to treatment. A medial trichloroacetic (TCA) peeling, which stimulates skin renewal and actively exfoliates its upper layers, is also used to remove atrophic scars and smooth the skin. Skin and nutrition
The state of skin secretion depends on the nature of nutrition – the more sweets you eat, the denser the sebum is.

Sometimes changing the diet with the restriction of sweet and grain products improves the condition of the skin without treatment.

In some cases, acne on the face is allergic and associated with intolerance to certain types of food. Such patients may suffer from rashes on the skin with other manifestations. For example, fatigue, headache, digestive disorders, a smell from the mouth, general sensitivity of the skin with a tendency to itch, and redness.

What to do? For a rash associated with food intolerance, the best treatment is choosing a diet that is based on a blood test for compatibility with food. This is an immunological analysis with the evaluation of specific antibodies (IgG and IgE) to various products, the number, and activity of cells mediating an allergic reaction.

Skin and ecology
An important factor in the development of pimples is thickening of the uppermost layers of the skin, which narrow the excretory duct of the sebaceous gland and promote stagnation in it. Thickening of the skin develops in response to external influences, for example, solar radiation or unfavorable urban ecology. Many people suffering from acne, note the improvement of the skin in summer during a holiday at sea. This is due to the beneficial effect on the skin of fresh air. However, after returning to the metropolis in 10–20 days the skin deteriorates because of the thickening, which has developed as a protective reaction to sunlight.

What to do? For such patients, excellent treatment is chemical peelings, thinning the upper layer of the skin and releasing the duct of the sebaceous gland. The ideal is a peeling with salicylic acid, which not only makes the top layer of the skin thinner but also has a disinfecting and anti-inflammatory effect.

When having salicylic peeling, an immediate effect is observed in the form of drying of the inflammatory elements. This is a well-tolerated, quick procedure that takes 10–15 minutes.

Skin and hormones
For adolescents and young people, the main cause of acne development is puberty.

In this case, the ideal solution is a combination of local homeopathic treatment aimed at a dilution of condensed sebaceous secretion and the use of peels with salicylic or glycolic acid. In an acute period, when there are bright red swollen nodules on the face, electrocoagulation, local antibiotic or ozone therapy will be effective. At the first stages of treatment, the so-called cleansing may be expedient, when the sebaceous glands are mechanically released from the clogging secret. Cleansing is not really a curative measure since, in the absence of systematic treatment, the sebaceous glands are very quickly filled again.
