Pet Photography Tips: How to Capture the Perfect Pic

Looking to capture the perfect pic of our four-legged friends? Explore some of the best pet photography tips for snapping the best image.

According to estimates, cats drive around 15% of all web traffic.

If you're an animal lover then you can understand why. There's nothing better than a photo or video of a beautiful animal to brighten your day.

If you're thinking about taking some photos of your own animals, then we're here to help.

Read on as we take a look at some top pet photography tips to help you capture the perfect pic.

1. Keep Calm and Carry On
Taking the perfect pet photo isn't easy. Don't make it any harder than it needs to be by spooking your furry friend.

If you're nervous or stressed about trying to get the ideal shot, then your pet is going to pick up on it. Once your pet is nervous or stressed, you're never going to get any good shots.

Try and keep you calm, no matter how many times your pet sneezes just as you're about to take the perfect photo.

2. Get in on the Act
A photo of your pet is great, but a photo of both you together can be even better.

If you have someone else on hand to take the photos, then let them snap away whilst you and your pet have some fun. Candid shots of you playing together are always great.

If you don't have any help, try taking a shot with your selfie cam. You can even use a mirror; it's simple to reverse an image once you've taken it.

3. Capture the Action
Our pets can look truly majestic when they're in motion.

It's not always easy to capture that in a photo. If you have a DSLR camera, try setting a fast shutter speed. You can then just keep shooting.

When you look at your photos, you'll find that the fast shutter speed has allowed you to freeze your pet in mid-motion. You can take some truly stunning shots this way.

4. Focus on the Eyes
If you want to capture the personality of your pet (and who doesn't?) then you want to try to focus on the eyes.

Getting your pet to sit still and look at the camera is easier said than done, but if you're patient, you can end up with some spectacular shots that really capture the essence of your pet.

Get in close and use a shallow depth of field so that everything other than your pet fades into the background. You may need to get down to ground level to achieve this, but if you end up with the perfect shot, all that rolling around on the floor will have been worth it.
