CBD Changing the Health Industry?

Over the years, people have come to appreciate the various effects of different cannabis products, despite the fact that marijuana in itself has been associated with all kinds of negativities. Nonetheless, many scientific studies have found the main active ingredients of marijuana, such as THC and CBD highly effective in certain therapeutic applications. In the most recent past, especially, multiple health organizations have endorsed the use of CBD for medical purposes. As a matter of fact, CBD was not so long ago, recognized by WADA (World Anti Doping Agency) as being a harmless product. Some years back, athletes were caught unawares and either disqualified or charged over the use of this product. A lot of awareness is, therefore, being raised for athletes in all disciplines to embrace the health benefits of the CBD.

Back to the main point, the World Health Organization recently reported that marijuana has many health benefits and should be subject to fewer restrictions. CBD possesses anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, and neuroprotectant properties well published in most government reports. The fact that the health industry supports the use of CBD in treating the side effects of opioids is reason enough to change one's perception in regards to CBD.

Recent reports also estimate that cannabidiol market will by 2020 have increased by 700% just from 2016. This means that more products will have been produced and approved by the relevant health departments. As a matter of fact, this opens up a loophole for investors worldwide. The Marijuana Company of America has capitalized on the power of CBD in various aspects such as research and product development. Most of these products are consumer products that target improving general health and well being of individuals. These products are in the form of creams, drops and oil extracts. With such developments, one question comes to mind, is CBD changing the health industry?

FDA Approved?

On the account of prescription medication, FDA recently approved a prescription drug, Epidiolex, which contains CBD as one of its active ingredients. For the first time, a medication that has an active ingredient derived from marijuana will find its way through the shelves. Epidiolex is a prescription medication for epilepsy and doesn't contain THC, the “high” agent in marijuana. This can only mean one thing, the government is slowly realizing the medical potential of CBD. This will, in the long run, bring a lot of changes in the health sector.

Infusing Cannabinoids into Healthcare Products

In ancient times, it is reported that healers and doctors prescribed cannabis to their patients because they had studied and witnessed the medical benefits of this plant first hand. The not so recent past saw science digging deeper into the healing properties and processes of the plant. Most healthcare products and personal products infused with CBD are increasingly finding their way into consumer shelves. Because of its anti-inflammatory properties, it may be used to treat acne and reduce oil production in the skin. CBD comes in many forms, oils, tinctures, gels, creams, sublingual sprays, transdermal patches and vapors, cbd dabs, CBD Wax, CBD isolate, Full Spectrum, and CBD Crumble.

Research-Backed Health Benefits

Research bodies all over the world, both private and government-sponsored have grown exponentially in the last decade. Apart from trying to find both the medical benefits and effects of CBD, research is also demystifying the social controversies associated with the hemp plant. Let's look at some of the health benefits and uses of CBD.

  • Reduces the risk of diabetes – research conducted on multiple cannabis users concluded that compared to non-users, cannabis users had a lower body index. A leaner mass reduces the risks of diabetes. Additionally, the use of cannabis increases appetite but at the same time increasing carbohydrates metabolism thus helping the body convert white fat into weight reducing fat.
  • Reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases – CBD has a cardioprotective effect especially during a heart attack. CBD increases the blood levels and high-density lipoproteins also known as good cholesterol.
  • Reduces the risk of cancer – CBD helps prevent tumors and other cancers before they spread.
  • Good for brain health and mental problems – The fact that cannabinoids are neuroprotective means that they help in promoting and maintaining brain health. Additionally, lower doses of cannabinoids promote the creation of newer nerve cells to replace the aged ones.

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA)'s View on CBD

The fact that there is still more research to conducted on the risks and effects of Marijuana, DEA feels that it is not yet time to authorize the use of the green herb and its derivative compounds.  DEA suggests that CBD should be treated the same as THC and must remain a Schedule I drug.

This having been said, we can only look towards the future with high hopes of expectations. It is clearer that CBD will have some groundbreaking implications on the health industry in the near future. The future looks brighter for cancer patients, and kids with epilepsy. Hopeful, researchers will realize even more therapeutic benefits of CBD. For what it’s worth, CBD indeed has a significant impact on the health sector today.
