Red River Steakhouse in McLean, Texas: For the Meat and Potatoes Lover

We made a great discovery this summer — the Red River Steakhouse in McLean, Texas.

Texas is known for its steaks, and this eatery follows that tradition. Owners Gabe and Cozy Parson, who also run a local cattle ranch, serve up an 8-ounce aged rib eye steak, salad, potato or rice plus cobbler for dessert for only $10.95 (or $14.95 for a 14-ouncer).

The clientele is as interesting as the food is excellent. We were there for lunch on a Saturday when a group of cowboys came in, put their hats under the chairs and ordered steaks. These gentlemen were very polite–and hungry!

If you're planning on eating dinner there on a Friday or Saturday, when there's live enter tainment, you'd better come early or make reservations. Either that or be prepared to wait. They pack 'em in from miles around!

McLean is on State Highway 273 in the Texas Panhandle, about 75 miles east of Amarillo and just north of I-40 (take Exit 141 if you're eastbound, 143 if you're heading west).

The Red River Steakhouse is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. For details call 1-806-779-8940.
