Goodland: The "Sunflower Capital" of Kansas

Thousands and thousands of acres of sunflowers surround Goodland, Kansas — the “Sunflower Capital of the Sunflower State”. But one whopper steals the show!

A 24- by 32-foot reproduction of Vincent Van Gogh's Sunflowers stands on an 80-foot-high easel at the entrance to town on U.S. Highway 24. Comprised of four giant panels, it's visible from nearby I-70, but you should drive into town to get the big picture!

The Goodland painting is the third of seven giant Van Gogh reproductions planned by Canadian artist Cameron Cross, part of what he calls the Big Easel Project. So far, it's the only one in the United States; the other two are in Emerald, Australia and Altona, Manitoba.

Goodland is at the junction of U.S. Highway 24 and State Highway 27 in northwestern Kansas, just north of I-70. To learn more, call the Sherman County Convention and Visitors Bureau at 1-785-890-3515.
