High Point, North Carolina: The Home Furnishings Capital of the World

If you're looking for new furniture, visit High Point, North Carolina, the “Home Furnishings Capital of the World”.

There are more than 70 retail furniture stores here — we couldn't believe the quantity and variety of furniture. And because retailers can place special orders with nearby manufacturers, large discounts are available — plus no sales tax on orders shipped out of state.

We also browsed around in nearby Lexington and Thomasville (home of the world's largest chair, 30 feet tall, shown at right), which offer even more furniture shopping opportunities.

We stayed at the High Rock Lake Marina and Campground, south of Lexington, which was an excellent base for our exploring.

High Point is on U.S. Highway 29/70, roughly 16 miles southeast of Winston-Salem. Lexington is about 18 miles southwest of High Point. To learn more, call the High Point Convention and Visitors Bureau at 1-800-720-5255.
