Ignore Windows Vista
If you're working for Microsoft, you've got to be bummed about a latest study published by the Gartner Group. In it they recommend that users wait until 2008 to upgrade. Only then, do they predict, will Windows Vista be vetted, patches, and stable enough to make it worth upgrading. They also go on to explain that most of the new features are already available as third-party add-ons to existing editions of Windows.
For instance, want a more secure browser than Internet Explorer? Get Firefox. Do you think that using the built in Windows search is slow? Download the Google Desktop which recently moved out of beta. Need a firewall? Check out Zonelabs' ZoneAlarm.
So why bother with Windows Vista even when 2008 rolls around? That's a good question. Hopefully as the release date nears, we'll get some concrete information about the new features and how they'll be of value in the real world.
