CNN Validates NY Times SEO Tactic
Back in May I wrote about how the NY Times was rebundling their content to expand their keyword targets. At the helm of NY Times' search engine optimization efforts is Marshall Simmonds whose abilities are well known in the SEO industry and so this tactic was generally accepted to be an effective one.
Today I noticed that CNN is doing the same sort of thing having created a topic sub-domain of the form topics.cnn.com to which it attaches a sub-folder specific to a topic area e.g. topics.cnn.com/topics/technology. The URL format isn't what I'd use, but already Google is showing 500+ such topic pages and I imagine there'll be more very soon.
As with the NY Times, these topic pages seem to be dynamically generated i.e. basically a search page for a pre-determined keyword. The page titles also indicates their dynamic nature as they all follow the form Topic: News & Holidays about Topic.
Now to see if CNN starts to show up for search results like the NY Times and Wikipedia do. It sure must be nice to be an SEO with such large collections of content!
