Blog Statistics
In the February 15, 2005 issue of CIO Magazine, Paul Roberts reported on some blog (see blog definition) related statistics. This information is based on data from the Pew Internet & American Life Project, a nonprofit organization that produces reports about the effects of the Internet on society. Of course, only someone with a blog would care about such trivia.
Here are some of the stats:
- Blog readership jumped 58% between February 2004 and November 2004 and comprised 32 million U.S. citizens.
- More than 8 million U.S. citizens had created a Web-based diary, and 1 in 10, or around 14 million U.S. Internet users, had contributed comments to a blog.
- Readership increased from 11% of U.S. Internet users in the spring of 2002 to 27% in November 2004.
- 57% of blog readers are male, 48%, were under 30, and 82% were longtime Internet users or had more than six years' experience online.
- 5% of Internet users received their news from Really Simple Syndication (RSS) aggregators or XML (Extensible Markup Language) readers that pull information from blogs and other web pages.
