What Is The First Aid For Numbness In A Stroke Patient?
One of my relatives had a mild stroke (left side of the body was paralyzed) 6 months before. He actually recovered. But today as he climbed some steep stairs, he is feeling pain again in his left side, especially in the lower backbone and left hand. Please tell me, what should be the first aid in such case?

I am also a stroke victim and I am only 34 yrs old. If he is experiencing pain on the side of the body that was paralyzed there are a number of issues that need to be addressed. First of all, you said he is recovering? There is not much you can do where actual first aid is concerned... treat the symptoms like the pain with a pain killer... Chances are that if he is making a full recovery, the nerve endings are usually one of the last things to recover. His nervous system may be healing and therefore causing the painful symptoms. Similar to having growing pains as a child.
However, if his symptoms get worse or if you notice swelling, a trip to the ER or Neurologist would be the smart thing to do. Otherwise, try to treat the symptoms with a pain medication. I too am struggling with my recovery. My right extremities were and still are partially paralyzed. I can walk without assistance, but I do suffer from mild pain from time to time and my research has shown that once the nervous system is in the process of healing you may experience some discomfort. But if it does get worse to the point of being unbearable. See a doctor ASAP.

First aid is to call 911. Don't bother to do anything yourself. It won't be enough!

Pain isn't the most common sign of a new stroke. Unless it's in the head and they have a bleed. If you are at all concerned you need to get to the ER ASAP.

Call 911

No first aid. Ambulance - hospital.

I agree with the previous response. I work in an ER and the faster you get help, the better. You could try aspirin, but in the case of a true stroke there is a very small window of time that they can actually try to reverse damage. 2 hours I think.
