What Is The Difference Between Emergency And Standard First Aid?
For a job I want to apply for it requires that I have Emergency First Aid and CPR level "C". However, the place I am getting my first aid from has the following seminars: "Emergency First Aid and Level A CPR", and "Standard First Aid and Level C CPR". I was just wondering what is the difference between them, and which one is better to take in my case?
Dean A answered:
Emergency First Aid is life saving and Standard First Aid is non-life threatening (like splinting a fracture). You need Emergency First Aid and Level A CPR.
David answered:
Standard is putting a band aid or split on an injury. Emergency means saving a life. Your job description is self explanatory.

Both of those answers are wrong.
Emergency first aid is a 1 day course
Standard first aid is a 2 day course that includes all of Emergency first Aid (Day 1) and then expands on some of the day 1 topics including Secondary Survey, 2 Person CPR, Child Choking, and Bone/Joint injuries.
If you are getting a first aid course for work, get the 2 Day Standard First Aid and ensure it includes AED (should be part of Day 1).
